What is illuminate

illuminate is an exciting programme that offers aspiring students insight into transformational ideas that are shaping the developing world today.

illuminate aims to broaden horizons, inspire a new generation of change-makers, and explore how students can contribute toward a better world, all whilst strengthening university applications. The students participate in a one day lecture event and subsequently take part in a multi-media essay competition to examine these themes.

Win or not, illuminate will help students to discover powerful new ideas and will add weight to university applications. Participation is completely free and students will automatically become a member of the illuminate Alumni network and be the first to be invited to exclusive events and hear all the latest AKF news.

How does it work?

  • Register

    Register your interest and join ambitious and socially-engaged Year 12 students by contacting akf.illuminate@akdn.org

  • Attend

    Attend an inspiring talk by a leading expert in their field on the current issues surrounding development.

  • Submit

    Take part in a multi-media essay competition and submit your competition answer.

  • Win

    Have the chance to win a cash prize, whilst strengthening your university application.
